After two days of fierce competition, the 1st SCO Countries Vocational Skills Contest came to to successful close. On the morning of September 13, a grand closing ceremony and award ceremony was held at Weihai Vocational College. Attendees of the ceremony include guests from SCO Secretariat, Embassy of Kazakhstan in China, Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, Department of Education of Shandong Province, People’s Government of Weihai Municipality, Institutions directly under the Weihai Municipal Government, and cooperative enterprises, as well as representatives of award-winning contestants and team leaders.

SCO Deputy Secretary-General Sherali Saidamir Jonon delivered the closing remarks and announced the Declaration of the Vocational Education Alliance of SCO Member States. He mentioned in his speech that “vocational education is fundamental to the development of economy and society for any country or region. In this climate of innovation, we should find innovative methods for the interests of our countries to facilitate vocational education, strengthen cooperation in key sectors in a down-to-earth manner, and enhance mutual trust among nations and people.” He highly praised the remarkable achievements China had made in its vocational education system, and hoped that the SCO Countries Vocational Skills Contest could continue to be held in the long future and cover more countries and regions.

Since its initiation, the contest has proceeded well, under the guidance of the Shandong Provincial People’s Government, support of the Department of Human Resources and Social Security of Shandong Province, planning of the Weihai Municipal People’s Government, and the organization of Weihai Vocational College, reaching its goals of enhancing friendship, displaying skills and achieving win-win cooperation. At the award ceremony, Ms. Lu Xin, president of the Chinese Society for Technical and Vocational Education and former Deputy Minister of Education of the People’s Republic of China, and Mr. Jonon presented Special Contribution Awards to Weihai Municipal Education Bureau, Weihai Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau and Weihai Vocational College.

A total of 124 foreign contestants won first, second and third prizes in the contest. They come from SCO member states including the Russian Federation, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Republic of India, and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, SCO observer states such as the Republic of Mongolia and SCO dialogue partners such as the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, as well as non -SCO countries such as the Republic of Korea, the Republic of the Philippines and the Kingdom of Thailand.

Domestic winners of first, second and third prizes come from 307 universities and colleges from 21 provinces, autonomous regions and municipality directly under the Central Government such as Hainan, Xinjiang, Heilongjiang and Jiangsu.
